GB Women feature in Pennant win

A composite Marlow/Thames RC women’s crew featuring four members of the GB squad were winners of the elite women’s quadruple scull pennant at this year’s Fullers Fours Head on Saturday (18 November).

Elise Laverick, Anne Vernon, Katherine Grainger and Sarah Winckless teamed up to take the title.

The latter duo were part of the Camelot-sponsored world silver medal crew in 2006 whilst Vernon competed in the women’s double at the Eton world championships with Laverick included in the women’s eight for last season.

Leander, meanwhile, lost its grip on the equivalent elite men’s title. This went to Tideway Scullers who fielded GB single sculler, Alan Campbell, New Zealand world champion Mahe Drysdale, Slovenian legend Itzok Cop and GB squad lightweight rower Mike Hennessy.

Leander hit back with a win in the elite men’s four, featuring Josh West, Tom Stallard and Richard Egington – all from the 2006 GB men’s eight, sponsored by Siemens –  with James Orme.

Leander also took the elite women’s four title with a crew which included Vernon’s doubles partner, Anna Bebington.

Cambridge University won the men’s coxed four with a dual German and GB team – the GB element being provided by Kieran West and Tom James who were both in the 2006 GB men’s eight.
