“I’m delighted to see so many community sporting heroes recognised in the New Year Honours List,” said Richard Lewis, Chair of Sport England. “In the creation of a world-leading community sport system, we need not only to provide the facilities and opportunities for people to take part in sport, but also to encourage them to develop their skills and ultimately excel. At Sport England, we’re aware of the huge role committed people play in making this happen in every community. The honours are a fitting celebration of the many people using sport to make a real difference for those around them.”
