Staines prepares for 2012 Regatta

Staines Boat Club is ready for an action-packed day of racing on Saturday (July 21st), when it will host the 2012 Staines Amateur Regatta.

A healthy entry for this year’s event means that well over 200 races will be held throughout the day, starting at 8.30am and finishing at 6.30pm.

Crews representing a host of London and Home Counties clubs will contest the 500m course – from Wheatsheaf Lane to Silvery Sands – but they will be joined by numerous clubs from further afield, including Oxford, Cambridge, Bristol, Southampton, Doncaster, and Ross-on-Wye.

The event will be free for spectators, who can enjoy the racing at the licensed bar at Silvery Sands – including an enclosure area at the finish line – along with a barbecue, fresh sandwiches, teas, cakes, and ice cream.

At the conclusion of the racing, presentations will be made by the Mayor of Spelthorne, and the fastest male and female single scullers of the day will receive engraved silver salvers.

There will also be a Victory Ludorum cash prize for the most successful club of the 2012 regatta, to be awarded at the end of what promises to be an entertaining day of racing.
