Clean sweep for Thames Upriver at 2013 JIRR

Thames Upriver swept the boards at the 2013 Junior Inter-Regional Regatta, finishing at the top of the Boys’, Girls’ and overall points tables at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham.

The annual contest sees 12 teams representing the 10 British Rowing regions (with Thames split into Upper, Lower and Central teams) do battle in J14, J15 and J16 races over 1500m.

Four victories for its J15 rowers set Thames Upper on its way to the 2013 Victor Ludorum, along with a particularly dominant display from the region’s J16 contingent – bringing home five gold medals and four bronze from 10 events.

The North West region claimed second place in the race for the Victor Ludorum, thanks largely to the impressive performances of its J14 rowers – with golds in the boys’ and girls’ single sculls and boys’ coxed quads.

Four gold medals overall helped the West Midlands to a third-place finish in boys’ and overall results tables, but a raft of medals in the WJ15 races – three silvers and a bronze – helped Thames Central to third place overall in the girls’ competition.

Results for the 2013 JIRR are available now at www.jirr.org/results.htm. Individual events will be available soon.
