British Rowing Safeguarding Handbooks and a iRowClean Webinar with Charlotte Hodgkins-Byrne

We would like to start this month by welcoming Richard Nunn to the Welfare and Governance Team! Richard will be taking over as Governance Officer one day a week and can be contacted with any questions concerning disciplinary and grievance or governance via the following email.

iRowClean Webinar with Charlotte Hodgkins-Byrne

On the 24th June, Clean Sport Ambassador and GB Rowing Team athlete Charlotte discussed Clean Sport and the realities of applying anti-doping responsibilities with us. If you missed it, the recording of the session will be available on British Rowing Plus soon.

British Rowing Safeguarding Handbooks

As you may have heard, the Governance Team is currently working to update and refresh all of the guidance notes we make available to clubs. This update will come in the form of four ‘Safeguarding Handbooks’, that will include all the guidance and information you need to ensure your club is doing all it can to create a safe environment. The handbooks will include:

  • Handbook 1 – the Club Welfare Officer;
  • Handbook 2 – Handling concerns;
  • Handbook 3 – Club, training and competition guidance;
  • Handbook 4 – Safety in the digital world.

To ensure that British Rowing makes the launch of these as effective as possible, we are going to be launching these in September, after the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Club Welfare Officer Drop-In sessions and Forum

As Rowing is drawing ever closer to being back in full swing, please remember that Club Welfare Officers have the option to get in touch with both their fellow Club Welfare Officers and the Lead Safeguarding Officer, for any safeguarding related questions they may have. Club Welfare Officers can either;

  • Engage with each other via the Club Welfare Officer forum, which can be found in the Welfare Corner on RowHow, or;
  • Attend one of the weekly Club Welfare Officer drop-in sessions, which run every Wednesday, from 16:30 – 17:30.

Alternatively, the LSO can always be contacted via the following email address, should you have any questions.
