GB men’s eight win SH Netz Cup in Germany

The GB Rowing Team men’s squad finished a memorable season on a winning note when they took part in the SH Netz Cup in Rendsburg, Germany.

The 12.7km invitational race for the best eights in the world takes place annually on the Kiel Canal, the busy artificial waterway that links the North and Baltic Seas, and is watched by thousands of spectators.

They saw the British boat once again get the better of season-long rivals Germany, as they had at the World Championships in Aiguebelette the previous week.

The GB eight, coached by Jurgen Grobler, was made up of John Collins, Will Satch, Will Warr,Paul Bennett, Ollie Cook, Alex Gregory, Pete Reed, Constantine Louloudis and cox Henry Fieldman.

They were in third place at the Olympic distance of 2k, with host nation Germany and the Netherlands leading the way. However, the GB eight then surged into a lead which they were able to hold for the rest of the race.

They crossed the line first in 37:46, nearly 20 seconds clear of runners-up Germany. The Netherlands were third and the United States fourth.
