Wednesday 18 June 2025 – Thirty-six have been selected to represent Great Britain at World Rowing Cup Lucerne 27-29 June 2025. With the Lucerne Regatta being the last international racing opportunity before the 2025 Shanghai World Rowing Championships, the squad is aiming to continue to build and develop out on the Rotsee, known by many as ‘the lake of the Gods’.

Commenting on the team selection Louise Kingsley, British Rowing Director of Performance said: “Results at the Europeans and World Cup Varese have been encouraging and we’ve seen some standout performances from the likes of Benjamin Pritchard, Lauren Henry, our eights and our quads. We’ve also seen many of our newer athletes learning with each race and delivering improved results. Lucerne is our last multi-lane racing opportunity before the World Championships, and more International competitors are expected, so it will be a good, final marker before we make our crew decisions for the big one in Shanghai.”

Lauren Henry is back in the women’s single sculls (W1x) for Lucerne. With a blistering European best time and British record in Plovdiv, Lauren continued to build her single sculling experience in Varese, and remains unbeaten so far this season.

Completing the women’s sculling line up will be recent European Champions Sarah McKay and Lola Anderson partnering up in the Women’s Double Sculls (W2x) GBR1. Their Europeans crewmate Cam Nyland will join with Vwairé Obukohwo to race the Women’s Double Sculls (W2x) GBR2.

Callum Dixon returns to the Men’s quadruple sculls (M4x) after missing out on the World Rowing Cup final in Varese on medical grounds. He will be joined by his European Champion crew-mates Cedol Dafydd, Matt Haywood and Rory Harris.

The Men’s Eight (M8+), continue to develop their experience and speed, having won at the European Championships and World Rowing Cup Varese. The unchanged crew are Will Stewart, Matt Rowe, Miles Beeson, Fergus Woolnough, David Bewicke-Copley, Sam Nunn, Matt Aldridge, Archie Drummond and cox, Will Denegri.

For the first time this season, there is no doubling up in the Women’s sweep squad. Eleanor Brinkhoff and Megan Slabbert race the Women’s Pair (W2-) and there will be two Women’s fours (W4-). Women’s four (W4-) GBR1 sees Daisy Bellamy return with Lauren Irwin, Heidi Long and Eve Stewart. After a debut run out in Varese, the Women’s four (W4-) GBR2 is Lizzie Witt, Martha Birtles, Juliette Perry, and Amelia Standing.

Tobias Schröder and Jamie Gare return in the Men’s double sculls (M2x), as do Jake Wincomb, Dan Graham, James Vogel and Joshua Bowesman-Jones in the Men’s four (M4-).Aidan Thompson is back in the Men’s single sculls (M1x) GBR1 with Varese and Plovdiv’s ‘super sub’ Tom Barras in the Men’s single sculls (M1x) GBR2.

Great Britain is currently second in the World Rowing Cup standings with 42 points. The Netherlands is in first place with 45 points. You can follow the action live at worldrowing.com
