In April, we invited tenders from consultants to assess how to create a British Rowing Senior Championships within the framework of a coherent National Events Strategy. This piece of work is being funded by our partner, UK Sport.

We are now pleased to provide an update on this and to ask for input from the rowing community.

Iain Edmondson and Martin McElroy from Legacy Delivery Ltd have been appointed to carry out the project alongside a British Rowing team of staff and volunteers. Options will be proposed to the British Rowing Board in September, with the aim of starting to implement the preferred option in the 2023-24 season.

The scope includes analysis of previous work as well as additional consultation with British Rowing, competitors, coaches, umpires, competition organisers and volunteers. This will include a webinar at 6pm (BST) on Sunday, 25 June 2023, together with a structured survey, which will be available live during the webinar as well as in some one-to-one meetings. The webinar will comprise a summary presentation of previous work and context as we move towards shaping a future event series. The webinar will be recorded and this, as well as the survey, will be online for the following two weeks so that all members of the rowing community have the opportunity to respond.

British Rowing members can also share their thoughts at any time by email to [email protected].

British Rowing CEO Alastair Marks said, “We are excited about moving forwards with this work, taking into account the views and needs of club members, aligning with British Rowing’s strategy of rowing being Everyone’s Sport.”
