Great Britain names 12-strong squad for European U23 Rowing Championships

The European U23 Rowing Championships take place in Brest, Belarus, on the weekend of 1-2 September

Twelve rowers, representing nine universities and boat clubs, will race for Great Britain at the European Rowing U23 Championships in Brest, Belarus, on the weekend of 1-2 September.

Seven of the athletes were part of the GB squad for the World Rowing U23 Championships in July, with Sam Nunn in the men’s pair having won a silver medal in the four in Poznan.

In the pair, Nunn partners fellow Oxford Brookes rower Henry Blois-Brooke, who finished fifth in the coxed four in Poznan.

Molesey’s Megan Slabbert finished sixth in the women’s four at the Worlds and partners Leander Club’s Rachel Heap in the pair.

Gavin Horsburgh, who won silver in the lightweight quadruple sculls at the 2017 World Rowing Championships, takes control of his own destiny in the lightweight single sculls in Brest. Laura Macro, a member of British Rowing’s World Class Start programme at Bath University, will race in the women’s lightweight single.

Newcastle University duo James Stevenson and Dominic Jackson team up again, this time in the lightweight double having raced in the lightweight quad at the Worlds.

George Bourne, a spare in Poznan, races the men’s single sculls with Katy Wilkinson-Feller in the women’s single.

And Reading University pairing of Rory Harris and George Lawton will race in the men’s double sculls.
