British Universities & Colleges Sports (BUCS) are seeking a host for the BUCS Rowing 4s and 8s Head in 2016.

The date for the BUCS 4s and 8s Head has now been confirmed within the National Calendar and will be scheduled 2 weeks prior to the Women’s Head of the River (WeHORR). The dates for the upcoming season is:

  • 20th and 21st February 2016

BUCS is now seeking to identify a host club for the 2016 event, with the intention to create a three year deal up to and including 2018. The host club will work in partnership with BUCS to put on the event. It is anticipated the event will attract over 45 university clubs, over 200 crews over two days, and up to 1,000 students – many of whom will be beginners.

The event will run each year over a weekend and access to the site and facilities will be required from midday on the Friday.

Interested ‘host’ clubs are asked to submit an expression of interest to the BUCS Event Coordinator (details at the bottom of the page) by Wednesday 12th August. A tender process will follow expressions of interest, with interested clubs being contacted to complete a tender document asking for specific information on facilities, resources available and access to local services.

For reference – racing at the BUCS Head takes place over a 5km distance and the selected host club will need to provide easy access to water for boating and sufficient parking for a large number of boat trailers and vehicles. Changing and toilet facilities are required to accommodate the large numbers of rowers competing over both days. Further prerequisites for consideration include indoor facilities for weigh-in, an event office and break area.

BUCS will look to invite the club’s appointed contact and the local safety advisor onto the Organising Committee to develop plans for the event.

Hosting a BUCS event provides opportunities to increase both profile and commercial income, while at the same time welcoming talented university rowers from all over the UK to your rowing club.

If your rowing club is interested in hosting one of the key events in the university rowing calendar please submit your expression of interest via e-mail to Hayden Arrowsmith, BUCS Event Coordinator, by Wednesday 12th August.
