Molesey gears up for 2014 Regatta

Find out more about this year’s Molesey Regatta – providing racing for all on the River Thames…

This year’s Molesey Regatta will be run on Saturday 19th July for seniors and masters, and Sunday 20th July for juniors and explore rowers.

The Saturday regatta is 850m downstream and the Sunday regatta 500m downstream. Much of the Molesey course is sheltered from other river traffic by an island so the regatta has side by side racing over a sheltered course. On the Saturday, there is usually a strong entry for IM2, IM3 and novice events. Masters events are usually well supported as well. On the Sunday, a range of sculling events from J12 to J18 are available.

For senior rowers, the Saturday regatta offers mixed events –a chance to compete without getting additional race points. A special event is Garrick double sculls, where one crew member must be a novice and the other may be experienced.

This year the Regatta is also offering explore rowing events on the Sunday, so there will be something for everyone. If you are not attending the National Championships, you can race without getting more points. Or if you want to compete at IM2 to novice, there should be good racing.

Spectators will be well catered for with a barbecue and marquees serving traditional afternoon teas and sandwiches, Pimms, local ales and much more. We also have a number of interesting shops and a fun fare area for children. Entrance is free and there is a car park on Ferry Road for spectators (£4 which includes a programme) and a free car and trailer park via Sadlers Ride for competitors.  Spread out a picnic and enjoy a full day of racing followed by live music on Saturday evening when Elmbridge Community Big Band take over with their ‘Summer Breeze’ session of jazz standards, big band swing, Latin and funk, as well as soloists.
