175th Henley Royal Regatta gets underway

The 175th Henley Royal Regatta got underway today, under clear skies and glorious sunshine on Henley Reach.

Close to 500 crews are set to do battle at the world’s most famous regatta this year, which runs until Sunday (6th January) and is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of spectators over five blockbuster days of head to head racing.

Among the thousands of competing rowers will be a strong contingent from the GB Rowing Team, including several European Champion crews. As well as top-level domestic competition, this year’s regatta also features more than 100 crews from 22 overseas countries.

“This year is the 175th Anniversary of the Regatta”, said Chairman Mike Sweeney, “and I am delighted to welcome so many top crews from all around the world to help us celebrate this special occasion.”
