Hereford Regatta and Sprint Cancelled

The 2013 Hereford Regatta and Sprint has been cancelled, owing to unexpected construction work at Hereford Rowing Club.

A statement on the Regatta web page today revealed that “considerable erosion has been found to have occurred under the boating steps which requires extensive and specialist repair to safeguard the future of rowing at Hereford.

“As a highly protected river the Environment Agency only allows a short window, starting on July 1st, in which such works can take place on the River Wye.

“This is major construction work, and it would not be surprising if the contractors encounter unforeseen problems as work progresses, Furthermore, for the work to be completed, the river has to fall to a low level.

“The works are of major importance to the future of Hereford RC, and the start date cannot be delayed. Whilst it is possible that all works will be completed in time for our planned August Regatta and Sprint, this is unlikely so we sadly have to cancel.

“We hope to welcome you all back to the Regatta in 2014.”
