Women’s Head of the River draw released

The draw for the 2012 Women’s Eights Head of the River Race (WEHORR) has been revealed, ahead of the illustrious March 3rd race on the River Thames.

Reading University’s A crew will start at the head of 296 boats this year, after finishing top of the Intermediate 1 category and third overall in 2011. Their time of 18 minutes and 53.69 seconds was a new Intermediate 1 record.

The full draw can be seen on the official WEHORR website.

‘I can guarantee you [the WEHORR] is an amazing spectacle to witness, and an even more amazing experience to be a part of,’ says race co-ordinator Guin Batten on www.wehorr.org.

‘It is at moments like this that we look back in awe and think of the thousands of strokes women have rowed in anger over the course in the history of the race. From its humble beginning in 1930 to becoming the biggest women’s rowing race in the world, the race is in good health.’

The WEHORR follows the four-and-a-quarter-mile Championship Course from Mortlake to Putney. Roughly 3,000 rowers compete in the annual event, which is now in its 72nd year.
