Rowing delegates join BOA in Ypres

A delegation of celebrated former rowers and dignitaries travelled to Belgium at the weekend to take part in the Armistice Day ceremonies in Ypres.

British Olympic Association Chairman Colin Moynihan led a delegation to honour the Olympic athletes who gave their lives in the line of duty during World War I.

Among the BOA representatives were British Rowing Chairman Di Ellis CBE, former Olympic bronze medallist Sarah Winckless, and Michael Lapage – a veteran of World War II and 1948 Olympic silver medallist.

The delegates took part in a series of events on Saturday evening and Sunday morning, including the official Armistice Day parade to the Menin Gate.

Representatives from the Belgian, French, and German National Olympic Committees joined the BOA delegates at the Menin Gate – the first time that representatives of the four Olympic Committees have gathered to participate in a remembrance ceremony.
