Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Pageant

 

Entries are open for the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant, which is expected to attract one of the largest flotillas ever assembled on the River Thames to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Up to one thousand boats will muster on the Thames on the afternoon of Sunday 3 June 2012, including rowing boats, dragon boats, kayaks, and a staggering variety of river-going vessels.

The Queen herself will lead the pageant on the Royal Barge, ahead of a number of music-playing barges, geyser-spouting boats, and pyrotechnic barges firing daytime fireworks into the London sky.

Rowing boats will travel with the flotilla from Hammersmith to Canary Wharf, in an event that will be broadcast live on the BBC, ITV, and Sky to what is expected to be one of the largest television audiences in history.

The flotilla offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help celebrate the Queen’s 60-year reign, with passenger boats carrying up to 30,000 flag-waving members of the public, and parading along the Thames to an audience of up to two million river-side spectators.

Rowing boats must be stable or traditional only (no fine racing shells), coxed, and capable of at least four knots.

Applicants must be aged 16 or over, and entries close on Monday 31 October.
