Gold Challenge Marathon Row heads to Nottinghamshire

This Saturday (October 15), over 20 teams of rowers from schools, sports clubs, and places of work will attempt an indoor rowing challenge in Newark Market Square, Nottinghamshire.

The Gold Challenge Marathon Row, organised by Olympic Atlantic Row, will see the teams of four to 10 rowers attempting to cover the marathon (42km) and half-marathon distances on Concept 2 rowing machines.

Teams will be mixed, men’s, women’s, and Under 16s – who will row the half marathon distance of 21km.

Organisers hope that a number of British indoor rowing records will be smashed on the day, and teams will also be raising money for the charity Right to Play – supporting children in war-torn countries by providing them with sports equipment and coaching.

The Gold Challenge Marathon Row is part of The Gold Challenge, a series of events held around the country to encourage participation in sport before, during, and after the London 2012 Olympic Games.
