Cambridge Autumn Head attracts 1000 to the Cam

Cambridge Autumn Head

Roughly 1000 participants took to the River Cam on Saturday
(15 October), for the 2011 Cambridge Autumn Head.

The annual event – hosted by the Rob Roy Boat Club – covers
a 2600-metre course just outside the centre of Cambridge, near Chesterton.

Cantabrigian Rowing Club claimed the honour of being the
fastest crew on the river, finishing in a time of eight minutes and 49 seconds
in the Men’s Eight.

Granta boat club’s Men’s Eight was the only other crew to cover
the course in less than nine minutes, posting a time of eight minutes and 58
seconds for second place.

The Cambridge University Women’s Eight proved to be the
fastest women’s crew on the water, with Rob Roy president Chris Parkhouse on
hand to present the prizes at the end of the day.

‘Many people worked very hard to make the racing possible,’
he said, ‘and I am very grateful to those involved for all that was done to
make the day so successful.’

‘We were delighted to welcome so many participants – many
congratulations to all winning crews.’
