Oundle Town RC to launch new adaptive Explore Rowing boats

 

Oundle Town Rowing Club will celebrate the official launch of its Explore Rowing programme on Sunday (11 September).

The programme is focussed on providing adaptive rowing on the River Nene, Northamptonshire, and celebrations are due to get underway at 10am, Sunday, at Oundle Town’s boathouse.

Explore Rowing has provided Oundle Town with five single boats and two doubles, as well as nine pairs of regular and adaptive blades, and a trailer to transport the new equipment – worth in excess of £30,000.

“We are seeing an unprecedented growth of interest in disability sport in the lead up to the 2012 Paralympic Games,” said British Rowing’s Deputy Chairman Annamarie Phelps. “By launching Explore Rowing now, Oundle Town have put themselves in the enviable position of being able to exploit this interest: to provide a pathway for participation to the entire community, to expand and develop their club, to grow our sport, and to encourage – and perhaps even identify – the next generation of Paralympic rowers.”

The club will now be able to offer more Learn to Row courses to both adaptive and able-bodied rowers, with the aim of integrating the two groups, and raising the profile of adaptive rowing in the Northamptonshire region.
