Charlie Shore Regatta comes back to life

Charlie Shore’s Twickenham Boys’ and Girls’ Regatta is set to be brought back to life on Saturday 17th September, 53 years since it was last held.

The regatta, which was founded in 1894, will feature 20 rowers from Orleans Park School, Radnor School, Twickenham Rowing Club, and RFU juniors, and organisers hope to make the event an annual fixture.

The 350m course begins at the White Swan pub and ends at the site of the original Charlie Shore boathouse – below the Eel Pie Island footbridge.

Heats begin at 10am, and the tournament will follow a knock-out format with a repechage to ensure each crew at least two races.

There will then be a demonstration race, in traditional two-man skiffs, followed by a prize giving.
