Brown claims adaptive singles honours at the City of Oxford Sprint Regatta

Oxford Regatta adaptive winners

The City of Oxford sprint regatta took place on Sunday 21st Aug 2011, over a 500m course and a shortened 350m course for adaptive athletes.

Four adaptive races took place – men’s and women’s 1x and 2x – covering all three categories; arms only, trunk and arms, and legs, trunk, and arms.

Sudbury’s Sophie Brown – who won the first ever adaptive rowing event at the Henley Royal Regatta in June – claimed first place in the women’s singles.

She finished ahead of Tyler Hallet, the arms only single sculler who recently raced in the British Rowing Championships and the Home Countries.

In the men’s singles, John Phipps pipped Anthony Verey for first place, with Stephen Ballard claiming top spot in the men’s 2x (assisted by Paul Crew).

The winners of each race received a distinctive pewter tankard.
