The junior Championships doubles as a test event for London 2012 and the GB Rowing Team has today named a four and quadruple scull.ADVERT Amber De Vere, Anastasia Chitty, Elizabeth Horne and Nicole Lamb will race the four whilst Katie Bartlett, Jessica Leyden, Klara Weaver and Lucy Burgess will compete in the quadruple scull. The two female crews come from as far apart as Durham and Dorset. GB Rowing Team will announce the junior men’s crews for the event in another two weeks’ time after further testing and trialling. The event is certain to give them valuable experience, racing against the best in the world in their age group. Richard Boulton, the GB Rowing Team Lead Coach for Juniors, who has been coaching junior GB crews for the past seven years, said: “Five of the eight girls are juniors again next year so it is a good chance for a step up. It will be great experience for them all.” Chairman of the WRJC, Ben Hunt-Davis, who won gold for GB at the 2000 Olympics in the men’s eight, said nearly 1,000 athletes and officials from 46 countries have confirmed their attendance at the WRJC and are being accommodated at and around the venue. “It is shaping up really well,” he said. “We’re going to have spectators on both sides of the lake so there should be a stadium-like atmosphere. “There will also be retail areas, the River and Rowing Museum are putting on an exhibition and British Rowing will have a ‘try rowing’ experience stand to encourage spectators to get into rowing. “It should make for a great experience.” The championships are rowing’s official test event for the London Olympics, with the Eton Dorney Lake venue being put through its aces and assessed by the London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG). “The accommodation and the transport are as it will be for the Olympics, as well as the technology, marshalls and the on-water staff,” said Hunt- Davis. The senior GB Rowing Team, sponsored by Siemens and Lottery funded, will announce its squad on July 19 for the senior World Championships in Bled, Slovenia, at the end of August – which double as qualifying for London 2012.
