With a year to go until the London 2012 Olympic Games, and just one week until the Junior World Rowing Championships get underway at Eton Dorney, there’s plenty to get excited about in the world of rowing.

On July 27 2012, the world’s attention will turn to London – and the GB Rowing Team will be looking to improve on their staggering six-medal haul from the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

“In just one year’s time, our rowers will be ready and waiting on Dorney Lake for that all-important green light,” said British Rowing Chairman Di Ellis. “In the meantime, our athletes continue to work incredibly hard in training.”

However, Eton Dorney will see high-calibre action long before the Olympic torch arrives in London, as the World Rowing Junior Championships begin on Wednesday 3 August.

Over 50 nations and 600 juniors will descend on Dorney Lake for the 44th incarnation of Rowing’s flagship junior event, where the stars of the future will be looking to make a name for themselves on an international stage.

“Our volunteers have been very busy ensuring that Dorney is ready for the Junior World Championships,” the British Rowing Chairman continued. “The countdown begins; Rowing is ready!”

Three-times Olympic silver medallist Katherine Grainger MBE has also lent her support to the Junior World Rowing Championships, by sending a good luck message to the competing juniors.
