Adaptive rowing at Henley Women’s Regatta
Great Britain is now proving to be as successful at adaptive rowing on the world stage as it is at able-bodied rowing and so it was definitely the right time to introduce the first trunk and arms (TA) adaptive event to Henley Women’s Regatta this year.
On Sunday 19th June, Sophie Brown from Sudbury won by three lengths against Hilary Birkinshaw of Guildford, racing in adaptive single sculls over a 900m course.
Diane Graham, Henley Women’s Regatta Chairman, says she hopes that the Regatta will be able to increase the number of adaptive categories next year when HWR will be celebrating its 25th anniversary.
Prizes were presented by Lord Colin Moynihan, former Olympic cox and Chairman of the British Olympic Association.
Henley Women’s Regatta was founded in 1988 on the famous Henley course. Entries have continued to row over the last 20 years reflecting the strength and quality of women’s rowing in the UK.
