Regatta Radio is set to go back on the air, providing coverage of all the build-up, races, events and activities taking place at this year’s Henley Royal Regatta. Supported once again by Invesco Perpetual, coverage will start on the 87.7FM frequency and online at www.regattaradio.co.uk on Friday 24th June in time to cover the qualifying races.

Managed and run by volunteers with connections to Henley Rowing Club, Upper Thames Rowing Club and Leander Club the station began broadcasting its mix of commentary, comment, news, views, features and music in 2005. Now in its 6th year the Regatta Radio experience has become an integral part of the Regatta for many thousands of listeners, not just in Henley but across the world, with internet listeners recorded in 114 different countries.

Broadcasting live from a temporary studio at the heart of the regatta, the broadcaster will again provide previews and commentary on every race from the first day on Wednesday 29th June to the finals and prize giving on Sunday 3rd July. While prior to the start of the regatta there will be behind the scenes features and interviews with some of the key players and athletes at HRR 2011. Chairman of HRR, Mike Sweeny commented, “Regatta Radio has become an integral part of the Regatta, it is enjoyed and relied upon by the rowing fraternity and we are pleased to welcome it back for a sixth year.”

It’s not just the rowing that is important however, Regatta Radio provides opportunities for the services and businesses in the Henley area to reach a much wider audience than they normally would. During the 10 days of broadcasting the Regatta Radio team will be running features on a variety of local businesses, ranging from boat builders to hotels, many of which will be recorded in the next few weeks.

Regatta Radio is lucky to have the support of Invesco Perpetual yet still relies on other sponsors and advertisers to provide sufficient revenue to be able to run the station. For businesses in the area and in the rowing community wanting to reach this unique audience of visitors, this is a prime opportunity. If interested please get in touch with Peter at [email protected]
