Racing has begun at the 2011 GB Rowing Team Trials

Racing has begun at the 2011 GB Rowing Team Senior Trials.  Rowing’s Performance Director David Tanner opened the event by saying that all participating rowers should “feel inspired” by racing on the Olympic venue at Dorney Lake.

“This is our place and our course.   It’s where we will come in 15 months time and expect our rowers to do significant things.  I would hope that everyone competing here this weekend will feel inspired”.

120 boats will be in action over the weekend in six events – the men’s and women’s singles and pairs and the men’s and women’s lightweight singles.  Rowers will hope to impress the selectors in order to get into a GB boat for the world cup season.

There were no significant withdrawals at this morning’s roll call and weather predictions are good for the weekend. This morning’s time trials are taking place in sunny conditions on flat calm water with a light tail breeze.
