After fierce competition between 18,000 students, 192 of the North East region’s best rowers battled it out at the 2011 Get Going, Get Rowing North East Indoor Rowing Final held on 24 March. The finals day produced exciting competition and great performances with new records being set in a number of
age categories.

James Andrews – British Rowing Team Leader (Northern) said, “I am impressed at the depth of talent that is within the North East coming to this final from a range of different schools and backgrounds. The organisers have done a fantastic job to grow this event to the size and standard it now is. The Get Going Get Rowing North East Final was an excellent event for juniors.”

Durham University hosted the competition and an appearance from Emmerdale actor, John Middleton made the day even more special for all participants.

Rowing Coach, Jim Flood, also commented on the event saying, “There was enormous enthusiasm and commitment from competitors and obvious pleasure and excitement about being there. It was a pleasure to attend this event and to gain a sense of the overall experience that the students had in progressing to this final – in particular those students from smaller schools with no history of rowing.”
