Volunteering at the World Rowing Junior Championships 2011

Please note that the information below does not apply to the Function Heads and Team Leaders for the World Rowing Junior Championships (WRJC) 2011.

Di Ellis, British Rowing Chairman, writes;

‘I would like to extend a warm welcome and a note of appreciation to all those who have volunteered to support this important event whilst taking this opportunity to clarify the position regarding volunteers at the WRJC 2011.

British Rowing has had an incredible response to the invitation to register to volunteer at the WRJCs in 2011. The number of registrations has far exceeded our expectations and the overall volunteer requirements for the event. This is tremendous and your support will make a huge difference to the success of the event.

We continue to work closely with our stakeholder partners, UK Sport and the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), to ensure the successful organisation of the Championships.  As you may be aware LOCOG are testing a number of key areas at the WRJCs. The testing of these areas plays an important role in the staging of a successful rowing event at the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games and we are sure you join us in supporting this.  London 2012 Games Makers will be used in the areas that LOCOG will be testing at WRJC 2011.

We understand that as volunteers you will have registered with British Rowing online at www.wrjc2011.com  to volunteer at WRJC 2011 and/or with LOCOG to be a Games Maker volunteer. To guide you on the next steps please see the information below:

Individuals who registered at www.wrjc2011.com with British Rowing only

British Rowing is currently reviewing the appointment of volunteers for roles at 2011 and we will be in touch shortly.

Individuals who registered with London 2012 only

LOCOG is communicating with its volunteer applicants regarding two volunteering opportunities;

i)  to volunteer in 2011 as part of the testing programme at the WRJC and

ii) to volunteer at Gamestime in 2012

As such, regarding a potential Gamestime role in 2012 you may receive an invitation from LOCOG to attend a selection event (which you should attend). In addtion to this you may also receive an offer of a role at the WRJC 2011 from LOCOG, depending on the number of volunteers LOCOG needs at this event. Do not worry if you are not offered a role or if you are unable to accept any position for 2011. This will not affect your eligibility for 2012.

Individuals who registered through both www.wrjc2011.com and London 2012

If you are offered a role at the WRJC 2011 it will be offered by either British Rowing’s WRJC Organising Committee or by London 2012 and not both. This will be your formal offer and this is the offer you should consider and respond to.

For any queries relating to 2012 Games Maker applications you should call the LOCOG Volunteer Support Call Centre  0845 402 2012.
