Rowing coach receives Devon Sports Award

It was a great day for rowing in the West Region on Thursday 17th February as rowing coach Kevin Sellar won ‘Senior male coach of the year’ at the Devon Sports Awards. Based with Plymstock SSP and Plymouth Amateur Rowing Club, Kevin was ecstatic when his name was announced as the winner in a category full of worthy contenders.

Kevin’s work through the School Sports Partnership includes introducing young people to indoor rowing, training junior leaders, running large indoor rowing competitions and learn to row courses on the water. He links with the Plymouth Rowing forum including clubs in the city and surrounding area, offering a variety of rowing such as fine boat, offshore and gig rowing. Kevin also coaches at Plymouth Amateur Rowing Club, including a group of talented young rowers, some of whom are involved in GB Rowing’s world class start scheme, having started out through his first learn to row courses. Previously, Kevin was involved with top gig club Caradon, running their land based training.

Those fortunate enough to work with Kevin know that he is a coach who works above and beyond expectations and has a true passion for what he does. The award was a small piece of recognition for Kevin who was ‘elated’ to have been chosen as a winner.
