Ross RC shine at Herefordshire Sports awards

It was an evening of success for Ross Rowing Club at the Herefordshire Sports awards. The Club was again recognised as the best Sports Club in Herefordshire, receiving the Club of the Year award for the third time in 5 years.

During his speech, Chairman of Herefordshire Sport, Bryan White, said ”this year, it was a very close result with Ross Rowing Club narrowly beating Hereford Swimming Club. Ross Rowing Club continues to set the benchmark for organisation, planning and success in Herefordshire”.

The Club had further success on the night with the Junior Academy retaining the Junior Team of the Year title. The award was collected by Sam Pothecary, Tom Scott, Morgan Baynham Williams and Charlie Morris, all leading members of the Academy Squad.

The awards continued with Ian Howell awarded Coach of the Year. Ian is heralded as the driving force behind the inception and development of the Junior Academy at Ross since 2005.

Finally Johan Lai was highly commended in the Male Junior Sports Personality of the Year for his highly successful season which included 13 wins, 5th in the National Championships and a bronze medal in the inter-regional finals.

Club Chairman Bryn Hughes stated “It has been another wonderful year in the progression of the Ross Rowing Club and we are very proud to be recognised as the leading sporting club in Herefordshire.”
