Bedford RC set for a busy Sunday

Bedford Rowing Club will hold its annual Eights and Fours head Sunday 13th February at full capacity, with 233 crews entered to race over the 2000 metre downstream course on the river Great Ouse in the centre of Bedford.

Event organisers closed entries almost a week before the planned closing date, due to an unprecedented level of entries. There are 123 Fours / Quad sculls and 110 Eights or Octuple Sculls scheduled to race.

Racing starts at 9.15am on Sunday morning with groups of up to 37 boats going off in seven divisions every hour and a quarter.
 
Local Bedford and Eastern region clubs have entered large contingents. From further a-field there are entries from University of Kent, Abingdon Rowing Club, Medway Towns Rowing Club, City of Oxford Rowing Club, Thames Tradesmans Rowing Club, Hampton School and Emmanuel School. Additionally, the Oxford and Cambridge University College boat clubs will be out in-force, with six Oxford college boat clubs and five Cambridge college boat clubs entered.
 
The most popular events for both senior men and women are Intermediate Three Eights (20 entries) (17 entries), whereas for Juniors it is Girls Junior 14 Coxed Quadruple Sculls (10 entries) and Boys Junior 14 Coxed Octuple Sculls (11 entries).
