Annual Aberdeen Asset Management Boat Race

Final teams for the Aberdeen Asset Management Universities’ Boat Race have been unveiled, as the teams prepare for the annual race on the River Dee to be held this year on Saturday 5th March.

Lead the Aberdeen University team is team president Adam Downie (21) who will be taking up the number 7 position. Originally from Glasgow, Adam has been rowing for three years. Attending university offered Adam the chance to take up a new sport and he has been a keen rower ever since. Adam has selected the following rowers for his team:

Scottish National Rowing Champions Jamie Steel (19) and Catriona Bain (19) will be towards the bows of the boat, while the other team positions will be taken by Bernhard Scholz (21) from Germany, Fraser Christie (20) from Edinburgh, Ewan Tomeny (20) from Nottinghamshire, Katie McPherson (20) from Ayr, Emily Foster (22) from London, and coxing for Aberdeen University is Mathew Burnett (21) from Tarves.

Challenging Aberdeen University is Robert Gordon University team president and crew cox Andrew Staite (20) from Aberdeen.

His line-up for the team is Lucy Bonnamy (20) from Aberdeen, Sarah Marshal, (29) from Canada, Euan Duff (22) from Dumfries & Galloway, Tom McIntyre (21) from Australia, Duncan Brown (22) from Inverness, Ed Pateman-Jones (23) from Surrey, Fiona O’ Shea (20) from Limerick, and Ruth Wright (20) from Turriff.

The university teams will battle it out by rowing 3.5km from the Bridge of Dee to Aberdeen Boat Club in Torry. The race starts at 2pm.
