New recruits wanted, no rowing experience needed

Hartpury College in Gloucestershire, home to a GB Rowing Team Start programme in combination with Gloucester Rowing Club, is on the hunt for new recruits.

If you are aged between 15-18 years and believe you have the talent and ambition to represent your country in a successful Olympic sport then log onto www.hartpury.ac.uk/rowing to find out more.

The College is seeking applications, under its Stand Tall campaign, from men who are over 190cm tall and women who are taller than 180cm.  No rowing experience is necessary.

The GB Rowing Teams’ Start programme is sponsored by Siemens and funded by the lottery. It has already produced world championships, world cup and/or Olympic medallists such as Helen Glover and Heather Stanning, who came through the scheme at the University of Bath, Anna Watkins and Annabel Vernon (who started out at Cambridge University) as well as Sam Townsend, Bill Lucas and Charles Cousins from last year’s GB Rowing Team men’s quadruple scull.

2009 men’s four World Champion from Gloucestershire, Alex Gregory, was spotted at school and was an early recruit to the Start scheme before going onto Reading University.
