Former GB Rower and Paralympian Karen Cromie has passed away

Rowers and support staff from the GB Rowing Team were saddened today at the news that Karen Cromie – a member of the squad for the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games – has passed away.

“We have all been shocked at the news of the death of someone so young who had been an energetic and successful member of the team and we extend our condolences to her family at this sad time”, said David Tanner, GB Rowing Team Performance Director.

Karen was born in Banbridge, County Down, and had played wheelchair basketball before joining the rowing squad.  She was part of the mixed adaptive double scull at the 2008 Games which finished fifth in the final.

Members of Karen’s family have asked for privacy at this time and the GB Rowing Team will be making no further comment.
