On 25th September 2010, eleven mens crews entered the final round of the Shyman Summer Series held on Bournemouth Beach.

To everyone’s amazement there were waves breaking at a venue known for it’s lack of surf whenever the Surfboats are in town. Round 5 was very different with a good dumping surf on a steep bank, it made getting in the boat at the start an interesting exercise. In addition there were two crews from Bryanston School, a crew from The Cambridge XPress Boat Club and the visiting Amsterdam Mongrols from Holland.

The day culminated with the presentations in the Westover and Bournemouth Rowing Club, thanks go to David Smith for sorting the logistics.

The Bude Runners continued to keep a stranglehold on the Shygirl Summer Series and won the event overall with an emphatic score of 178pts which just pipped the Shyman Summer Series overall winners Porthtowan Blue Bali on 177pts.

This is the first time the Bude Surfboat Club has won a Summer Series and congratulations to the Bude Runners and their Sweep Mark Bannister.

The Porthtowan Blue Bali crew now turn their sights to New Zealand in late January 2011 to represent Great Britain in The International Surfboat Challenge a 3 Test Series against crews from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

In the Novice Sweep overall pointscore, Gethin Edwards from Llantwit Major secured the 2010 title and this adds another sweep to their growing list.
