Henley entry details announced

The GB Rowing Team, fresh back from a successful world cup in Munich last weekend, gave the details today of the crews who are racing at Henley Royal Regatta for a variety of clubs.

The Regatta features a bumper international line-up this year including Canada and New Zealand two of the big-hitting nations who have chosen to train in the UK post-Munich and compete at Henley.

The British pair racing as a Leander/Molesey composite at Henley, had a very tight encounter in Munich with their rivals and world champions Eric Murray and Hamish Bond.  The crowds at the Regatta could be treated to the next phase in this series of encounters.

Cameron Nichol and Tom Burton, who raised their game in Munich to finish fifth in the final, will also  race in this event.

Matt Wells and Marcus Bateman, racing as Leander Club, will prove tough to beat in the Double Sculls. They already have two world cup victories under their belt this season.

Britain will race a men’s eight in the Grand Challenge Cup, setting up a fascinating challenge against crews from Canada and the USA amongst others. The Henley crew will be unchanged save for a swap in the bow seat with Tom Wilkinson returning from injury to replace Nathaniel Reilly O’Donnell who for now concentrates on the U23s.

Stephen Rowbotham, Beijing Olympic medallist in the double scull, has switched to the quad this season. For the first time he will stroke the GB quartet which also includes Charles Cousins, Sam Townsend and Bill Lucas at Henley Royal Regatta in the Queen Mother Challenge Cup.

Alan Campbell misses Henley as he recovers from Munich as do the GB Rowing Team’s men’s four.

Katherine Grainger, Anna Watkins, Beth Rodford and Annabel Vernon will race in the Princess Grace Challenge Cup, women’s quadruple scull event.  They won gold at the season’s opening world cup and followed that with silver in Munich.

This season, the GB Rowing Team have a medal-winning women’s eight and the line-up which took gold and  silver in the season’s first two world cups will race in the Remenham Challenge Cup.
