Try Rowing for Free at Tyrian Boat Club

Tyrian Club in London will be running a learn to row taster course over the three days of the May Bank Holiday.  In these three sessions you will be taught the basics of rowing using an indoor rowing tank, rowing machines and video, culminating in a session on the water on the Monday.

The sessions will take place at 81 Hartington Road, Chiswick and they are free, but the club hopes that if you enjoy yourself you will join their novice group and continue rowing as a member of Tyrian Club (who provide up to 4 sessions a week – Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6.30pm and Saturdays at 11am and Sundays at 12pm – it’s up to you how many you attend).

Tyrian was set up in the 1960s as a club for the alumni of the University of London Boat Club (ULBC) who wanted to continue rowing internationally after they graduated.  This year the club have decided that they wanted the club to be more than the current 21 ex-internationals and so they are developing a novice group for both people who have competitive aspirations and also for those who want to go out on the river when it’s sunny.

The course will be run by a fully qualified coach, Ruth Hatton, who has 20 years of coaching experience ranging from absolute beginners to national medallists.  At her last club, Tideway Scullers’ School, Ruth set up a successful Junior Squad and also a housewives group, and she hopes to achieve the same at Tyrian.  Ruth will be assisted (coaching-wise) by Nathaniel Reilly-O’Donnell and Natasha Howard who are full time athletes with the GB rowing squad but will also be using other coaches from the current UL squad and friends from the GB team (past and present).

Places are limited, to book them please email them.  The sessions will be held at the following times:

Saturday May 29th 10am
Sunday May 30th 10am
Monday May 31st 10am
