Bristol University won the 2010 event 4-1. The improvements made on last year, a TV screen and larger marquees, certainly gave the event a revival. All competitors had a great day of racing. The day began with a win the novice girls from UWE. The crowd then expected a UWE win for the novice boys, but it wasn’t to be. The afternoon racing saw the alumni and two senior races take place. Without the aid of UWE Olympic gold medallist, Pete Reed, in the men’s alumni event this year, Bristol stormed ahead to win by two lengths. The women’s senior race saw Bristol finally break UWE’s six year unbeaten record. The long awaited senior men’s VIII set off with Bristol looking to increase the win margin despite being scarred of UWE having seen them at BUCS the previous weekend. With both Club presidents racing each other, UWE set off with a strong start leading until half way when Bristol came alongside neck and neck into the final bend. Bristol gave one last push and crossed the line half a length ahead of UWE. Final result was a win for Bristol 4-1. 2010 Varsity Winners- UoBMen’s 1st VIII – UoB*SPONSORED BY VIIMIWomen’s 1st VIII – UoB*SPONSORED BY ERRMen’s Novice 1st VIII – UoB*Women’s Novice 1st VIII – UWE*SPONSORED BY SURE RYDER CAREMen’s Alumni VIII – UoB*Women’s Alumni VIII – UWEMen’s Novice 2nd IV – UoB ones with * denote those counting towards the overall Blade & Varsity Boat Race winnersADVERT If you are interested in sponsoring the 2011 Bristol Varsity Boat you can get in touch via their website.
