Oundle Town RC are Club of the Year

The CCPR’s Sports Club of the Year award was presented last night by HRH Prince Edward, President of the CCPR, to Oundle Town Rowing Club.  In joint second place were the Diamond Centre for Disabled Riding Surrey and Mayfield Rochdale Rugby Football League Club, in third place were Volleyball Newcastle, Halton Table Tennis Cheshire and Erewash Gymnastics Club Derbyshire.

British Rowing’s Chairman, Di Ellis CBE, was delighted with the Club’s success, “Oundle Town is a small and relatively new club based near Peterborough, this is a fantastic achievement from a smaller club from a different part of the country. They were competing against 1500 clubs from right across the sporting spectrum, they have worked extremely hard and the award is very well deserved.”

Oundle Town RC have established themselves as a focal point for their community in the ten years since they were founded, offering rowing to all levels of ability including people with a disability.  The club has been successful in working with a large number of partners. As well as support from British Rowing and the Henley Stewards’ Charitable Trust, they have a thriving partnership with Prince William School in Oundle, the Local Network Fund, Northamptonshire Sport, Northants Disabled Youth Sports, English Federation of Disability Sports and British Blind Sport.

The prize of £6,000 will help Oundle Town RC in their goal to become the leading community rowing club in Northamptonshire, expanding junior and adult participation and providing inclusive rowing for all ages.
