The Seventh Annual Quintin Head

The seventh annual Quintin Head took place on Saturday 30th January 2010 at 12:30 pm, with the course from Hammersmith Bridge to the University Stone at Chiswick on an incoming tide.

For the second year running the event was over-subscribed, attracting an entry of 116 crews, of which only 99 were allowed to start under PLA rules relating to the non-closure of the River.   On the day all 99 crews completed the course, headed by two matched eights from the Cambridge University Boat Race squad.

As seems to be becoming a tradition, Cambridge gave what proved to be their faster crew the task of chasing down their clubmates, but the finishing margin was very slender between the finely matched crews.  These two crews inevitably finished first and second, but 1829 Club put in a creditable performance to finish in third place only ten seconds behind the winners.  The University of Bristol came fourth to take the IM2 pennant and their club also won Men’s Novices.

Vesta was the most successful club with the fastest women’s crew, and additional pennants for the IM1 and WIM2 categories.  In the men’s veteran categories Quintin swept all opposition aside with a margin of over 45 seconds over their nearest rivals and finished 18th to win the Veteran D pennant.
