Single sculler rows the seven longest lakes in the Lake District

Dave Harte

On Saturday 10th October, Talkin Tarn ARC member Dave Harte, took on a challenge to row the seven longest lakes in the Lake District in a single scull.

Dave moved up from London in 2001 and joined Talkin Tarn ARC which was established in 1859.  The club is now in its 150th year, is in desperate need of a new boat house (the present one does not have the capacity to support the club’s growing numbers – and is in a very bad state of repair with only a few years of life left in it).

In order to raise much needed funds for the club’s boathouse appeal (and also for a local hospice), Dave decided to attempt the challenge – one of which included sculling on the scenic waters of Lake Windemere, Ullswater and Derwent Water.

After covering a impressive 64km in total, Dave completed the challenge in a total time of 9 hours 23 minutes (4 hours 41 minutes on the water).
