GB U23 men’s four qualifies

The GB men’s four won their repechage at the World U23 Championships in Racice, Czech Republic, to qualify for Saturday’s semi-final.

The British crew of Will Satch, Matthew Tarrant, William Laughton and Scott Durant had a more confident race today. They went through early leaders France in the second quarter to produce a strong win and to set themselves up well for tomorrow’s semi-final.

The victory means that eight out of nine GB crews have now qualified for the next stage of competition.

As a result of storms in Racice yesterday several boats, including the boat that the GB coxed four were using, were damaged. Consequently the repechage of the men’s coxed four has been delayed. The Australian team have generously agreed to lend the GB crew one of their boats.

The GB men’s coxed four of Ryan Bucke, Karl Hudspith, George Nash, Ray Poulter and cox Max Gander will now race tomorrow for a place in the final.

Tomorrow will see several British crews in action in semi-finals. These will be the lightweight women’s single scull, the lightweight men’s quadruple scull, the men’s pair, the men’s four and the lightweight men’s double scull. A and B finals will be held on Sunday.
