The Durham ARC clubhouse which is normally just above the floodwater levels was subject to the full force of the river. Club captain, Mark Bell, arranged for Durham County Council to deliver sandbags and this helped to slow the ingress of water. Club members and friends cleared the floors of furniture and other valuable items thus keeping damage to a minimum. ADVERT The water level dropped rapidly throughout Saturday afternoon and an herculean cleaning effort meant that a wedding booked in the clubhouse for that evening could go ahead as planned. Our thanks and well done to all involved. Photographs of the floods can be viewed at http://gallery.durham-arc.org.uk/floods2009/ Report and photos from Richard Mortimer Durham ARC ADVERT
