A new community rowing club in Hull

From Hull Rowing Club:

A small group of dedicated rowers has set up Hull Rowing Club after Hull University Boat Club folded earlier this year.

Hull RC maintains strong links with rowers from the University, but is really keen to use this as an opportunity to make the sport accessible to the wider community, and get more people involved in the club.

Sir Matt Pinsent has already lent his personal support, and the Lord Mayor is also keen to come along to our taster sessions on the 25th/26th July 2009.  We’ll be opening the club up on both days between 08:00 and 11:00 (times are dictated by the tide), and we will be happy to show people around and get as many people as we can into boats for a quick taster.

The sport can do so much for individuals and the community, and we will keep the cost of rowing to an absolute minimum – our aim is to never close our doors to anyone.

All of this has all come at the sad loss of the University Club which had been through a rough patch recently, suffering vandalism and break ins, but the future is bright if we can get enough interest from the local community to make it a viable club.

If anyone would like to find out more, they can email us at [email protected], or come down to club during outing times, mentioning where they heard about us. We’re usually there 2 hours either side of high tide!
