Tone School Inter-School Multi-Sport Competition

Indoor Rowing at Tone School

On Wednesday 11th June, the Blackbrook Pavilion, Taunton was alive to the sound of over 1100 year 6 pupils.  They were all taking part in the Tone School Sports Partnership inter-school multi-sport competition, believed to be one of the biggest inter-school competitions nationally.

Tone School Sports Partnership Assistant Development Manager, Lucy Mowlam, said ‘The event was designed to give local children the opportunity to experience a variety of new sports and to give them the opportunity to find an activity they can participate in at their respective secondary schools, or more importantly when they leave school’.

One of the events on offer to the pupils was indoor rowing, with twenty machines linked to the screen to provide individual and relay racing for the pupils.

The Tone partnership has recently invested heavily in indoor rowing, purchasing a number of model D machines and updating the monitors on the remaining machines across the partnership secondary schools. Training has also been provided to staff, enabling them to run indoor rowing clubs and competitions.

This event, which was supported by the Amateur Rowing Association, provided an excellent taster session for the year 6 pupils, who will now be able to take up the sport once they move into secondary education in September.
