In 2023, the England Rowing Home International Rowing Regatta (HIRR) team made history as the first team to retain all four trophies whilst becoming the first nation to do so in Ireland. The team will look to continue their winning streak this year at the HIRR in Strathclyde Park on 27 July, hosted by Scottish Rowing.

This year both policies have been expanded in several areas. This includes information about financial support available to athletes facing financial hardship; the list of who you need to contact for support has been expanded in both documents. In addition, the HIRR policy now includes indicative times to show the standard expected of crews attending HIRR trials.

HIRR trials

The HIRR trial this year will also be moving to Nottingham at Holme Pierrepont. By moving the trial to a more central location and by shifting the start time of the trial to later in the day, we hope that more athletes from all across England will be able to attend. Entries for crews and registration for coaches will open at 12:00 (noon) on Monday, 17 June and close at 12:00 (noon) Thursday, 11 July on BROE.

HIRBS trials

In 2024 England will be hosting the Home International Rowing Beach Sprints (HIRBS), on 28 September in Bournemouth. England will be looking for their first elusive win of the Guin Batten Trophy and so we have expanded opportunities for athletes to trial for the team by using multiple events spread throughout the country for athletes to show their worth.

HIRBS will also be introducing a new event in 2024 with the introduction of the U23 Mixed double scull.

It is hoped by giving athletes more opportunity to trial, the team will be in a stronger position for the event this September. Registration for athletes and coaches is now open and will close at 23:59 on Sunday, 4 August.

Assistant Team Manager (HIRR) sought

As always, the England Rowing Team is looking to improve the standards that we offer the athletes and coaches in the team. With this aim we are creating a new volunteer opportunity within the HIRR management team, the role of Assistant Team Manager.

This is a great opportunity for someone wanting to gain more experience of supporting the management and governance of a large international team. Applications are now open and close at 09:00 on Monday, 26 February.
