If you are someone who would like to grow your university club by supporting the occasional session, assisting, or supporting rowers to get onto the water in a safe and fun environment, you might want to consider doing an online University Activators Award. Keep a look out on our social media and website for the date of this new course – it’s coming soon!

Please note that the University Activator course  is not a coaching qualification.

Description

The aim of this workshop is to equip you with the knowledge and skills to be able to support rowing sessions confidently and successfully.

You will be able to introduce and encourage all abilities into Rowing in a fun, friendly and relaxed environment. The Activator workshop will enable you to Co-ordinate a fun warm up that will get everyone socialising and also how to set up support for a rowing session. The workshop will provide you with an all-round introduction to supporting activities that include Health and Safety checks, importance of welcoming participants into a fun and relaxing environment, warm up and cool down examples as well as information on British Rowing.

The University Activator Award is a pre-coaching award for individuals supporting activity on the water and is aimed at anyone who will be supporting a coach with the delivery of their sessions.

What will I get out of it?

As a University Activator Award holder, you will be able to support the delivery of rowing sessions by a coach as part of a sport/activity programme.

Who can attend?

Anyone over 18 years of age wanting to develop their skills to support the delivery of rowing sessions.

In addition to this you must be or become a British Rowing registered member. Non-members can apply online for instant registration (England and Wales)

How is the workshop structured?

It focuses on:

  • Identifying your roles and responsibilities as a rowing activator
  • Identifying the key components in delivering a safe and inclusive session to a group of rowers
  • Identifying some of the skills required to deliver these sessions effectively
  • Looking at the key skills and technical development in rowing activities
  • Experiencing rowing activities through video observation
  • Discussing the key skills of an activator when supporting rowing sessions
  • The course is balanced with both theory and online learning activities.

How do I apply?

Step 1

Complete the three online courses, available free of charge on RowHow:

  • Safety Basics
  • Cold Water & Hypothermia
  • Capsize Training for Coaches and Club Officials

Don’t forget to save these certificates and upload them to your profile, you will need to do this in order to book!

Step 2

Register on a University Activator workshop

After completing the workshop, you are then encouraged to practise your activator skills back at your university club.
