We’ve made the first in a series of changes to your British Rowing membership following a wide-ranging consultation with the rowing community over the past 12 months.

This included our biggest ever survey of British Rowing members, interviews with cross-sections of current and former members and discussions with British Rowing’s Regional Chairmen, standing committees and Board.

The aim is to take a fresh approach to making membership relevant to everyone in the sport – through the benefits we provide, the communications we send and the way we present our membership offer.

The first change you’ll notice is that four new types of membership called RACE, ROW, COACH and SUPPORT will replace the current ones.

RACE and ROW membership improve on our current Gold and Silver memberships for all types of rowers, and COACH and SUPPORT have been specially developed for that incredibly important group of coaches, umpires and volunteers who support our rowers, clubs and competitions.

All new and renewing members will receive a new membership pack, including a redesigned plastic membership card / Race Licence. By popular demand, this will come pre-printed with a colour photo of you and your relevant personal and club details – no assembly required!

To support these changes we’ve also launched a new online membership management system, replacing our existing system which is now over ten years old.

This will improve your experience of buying, changing or renewing your British Rowing membership, booking onto courses and events, checking your Ranking Points, accessing your member benefits, updating your personal details, uploading the photo that will be printed onto your card and much more.

The new system will sit on the same platform as our new British Rowing ClubHub Portal that has also been launched – so if your club signs up to British Rowing ClubHub, you’ll be able to manage both your British Rowing membership and your club membership in one place.

This new membership framework, together with the online portal, provides a great foundation, structure and platform to further develop membership. We’re already looking at additional improvements, especially on how we engage the large number of people who consider themselves rowers, but who don’t currently have a formal way to support their sport.
