The Stewards’ Charitable Trust (SCT) Coaching Scholarship Scheme enables seven coaches to undertake a two year part-time postgraduate course, giving students the chance to deliver rowing where young people might not have the chance to participate.

There is still one coaching position available based in Dudley, near Birmingham, in a dynamic club with a growing number of disabled and sensory impaired members. If you would like to combine coaching young people while studying for a part-time sport-related postgraduate qualification, then the Stewards’ Charitable Trust Coaching Scholarship Scheme could be for you. Previous experience working with young people is desirable but not essential.

Chris Farrell, Indoor Rowing Project Manager at British Rowing, coached at Dudley from April 2013 to May 2016 as British Rowing’s Strategic Project Officer.

He said: “Dudley hosts a fantastic and safe watersports facility where the rowing club keeps a range of recreational boats, adaptive equipment and indoor rowing machines to help people learn to row.

It’s a great opportunity for a coach to grow both indoor and outdoor rowing participation

“The SCT coaching role provides the perfect opportunity for any motivated individual interested in working within a thriving club environment, with the heart and ambition to grow its membership. You will be supporting one of the newest clubs affiliated to British Rowing.

“Some of the people who learned to row when I was there are now the passionate committee members of the new club. My favourite moment was seeing how inspired they were to progress, and provide a permanent club environment, to give more people the accessibility to go rowing.

“The SCT role is a great opportunity for a coach to help continue, and embed, new ideas into a learn-to-row programme in Dudley, to grow both indoor and outdoor rowing participation.”

To apply for the SCT role at Dudley, please send your CV and a covering letter to Tim Messent, British Rowing’s Education and Training Manager, at [email protected].
