The University Indoor Rowing Series (UIRS) provides fast and competitive racing over a number of distances. Events are designed for everyone, providing an enjoyable experience for both newcomers to indoor rowing and seasoned fitness enthusiasts.

Each host university is required to provide a certain number of national categories, with many choosing to run additional competitions for the local audiences near to their venue.

Many universities applied to be a host venue, enabling the series to offer a variety of competitions in different locations around the country.

On Saturday 10 November the series kicks off with a doubleheader with The University of Leicester welcoming competitors from across the Midlands and the University of York hosting students from across the North East. This is followed by an event at Durham University, two days before the Scottish Indoor Rowing Championships.

The second half of the series begins on Saturday 17 November with a doubleheader at the University of Lincoln and the University of Reading who host on the same day.

On the following day, the action moves to the University of the West of England, which hosts competitors from the South West. The second doubleheader of the series sees Queen’s University, Belfast and the Welsh Indoor Rowing Championships take place on the same day.

The University of Surrey closes out the series on Sunday 25 November with institutions from London and the south expected to compete. It’s also the last chance saloon for anyone missing earlier events or for rowers keen for a second attempt to set a personal best time.

Institutions are able to enter their competitors into the BUCS Rowing Indoor Championships for inclusion in the governing bodies’ UK-wide competition for higher education students. BUCS points will be awarded on a national basis to winning competitors in the UIRS who represent their university.
